Our Heritage and Vision
The Penn Wynn Foundation was established in 1669 by Charles Winn, a visionary vicar dedicated to education and spiritual growth. For 23 years, he served at St Bartholomew’s church, where he began teaching local children to read, write, and embrace Christian values. Recognizing the importance of education, Charles Winn left a legacy that included funds to build a school and provide Bibles to students. Today, the foundation continues to honor his vision by inspiring young people and fostering a lifelong love of learning and faith.
Today’s Mission
In 2025, Trustees of the Penn Wynn Foundation renewed the vision with four key aims
Ensure all young people (ages 11–16) have access to trained youth and school liaison workers.
- Provide safe, supportive spaces in the evenings and school holidays.
- Empower young people to take leadership roles in churches and worship.
Establish a Young People’s Panel to shape and guide the Foundation’s future initiatives.

Reflection
Our Penn Wynn POPUK transition event was incredibly successful, fulfilling our aims of celebration, reflection, and community across the schools in the Ancient Parish of Penn. Over 200 young people aged 11 plus from 3 local schools took part. In 2026, we aim to have at least 4 schools and 300 plus students over 2 days. The positive feedback reflects the impact of using music as a bridge between primary and secondary education, and as a means of spiritual and emotional growth for young people.

It was a good chance to face your fears.
You could pray or draw if you didn’t want to do the physical activities.
Christian Crowdfunding Appeal
We are launching a Christian crowdfunding appeal to raise an initial £30,000 to build upon the momentum of our current programmes and employ youth workers on a long-term basis across the Ancient Parish of Penn. We have engaged platforms such as Crowdfunder, GoFundMe, and JustGiving, recommended by the Church of England.
Inspired by the biblical example of the widow’s mite, we welcome contributions of any size. From individuals to corporate sponsors, all support makes a difference. We invite donors to support this modern mission of Christian service to young people in Wolverhampton. Together, we can honour the legacy of Reverend Charles Winn and build something transformational.
